"For anyone unfortunate enough to have a home with a grinder pump (in the basement nonetheless!), Pump Works is the company you want to call for servicing if you don’t want to have to be calling someone again six months or a year later. They use better quality parts and they are honest about what the issue is, and fairly priced.

We moved into our current home 10 years ago, not realizing what a pain a grinder pump can be. For the first few years, we were calling the company that installed it; while they were professional and courteous, the replacement floats they installed kept failing and we had to call them back, often, but they were the only game in town. Then we learned of a young man who went into business for himself, who gave great service and used quality parts (only had to call him once, 5-6 yrs ago), but he is no longer in this area.

So this time, when our pump was backing up, a neighbor recommended Pump Works, and I’m very glad that’s who we called. Although they have a very busy schedule, Daniel and George came out same day and quickly resolved the problem. They are both knowledgeable and efficient. Turned out, our blockage was actually caused by the competition “accidentally” turning off our outside shutoff valve by the street when installing a new pump next door. Pump Works only charged us for a needed replacement alarm float (a separate bill for the service call was paid by the company responsible for the problem). Also, if you have a grinder pump, here’s some advice to minimize potential problems: do not let any grease go down your drain - zero! (Even wipe out salad bowls!) If you have a garbage disposal in your kitchen sink, don’t use it. Even ‘helpful’ organic items like eggshell can mess up the temperamental grinder pump."
